According to The South African Mobile Report 2017 Apple has only 10% market share in South Africa.
This means that 90% of smartphones in South Africa use the Android operating system.
Samsung is the leader in smartphones using Android with 40% market share in South Africa. Huawei has made a huge impact on the South African smartphone market share with a wopping 9% market share. Just 1% short of Apple. Will 2018 see Apple fall into single digit market share in South Africa? We think so.
In June at the Apple World Developer Conference, Apple announced a change in their App Review Guideline. This change is set to remove an astronomical amount of useful apps from the Apple App Store. So we will see successful entrepreneurs that own an app as a business lose their right to distribute their app through the Apple App Store. Effectively being forced to leave the app store due to a guideline change that aims to get rid of flappy bird spam and clone apps.
So because of this, we are seeing our own clients rather investing Android App Development as the market share is 90% and you do not run the risk of having your app/business removed from the Apple App Store.
