So as of 29 September 2016 residents of Johannesburg will be able to download UberEats.
If you are an existing Uber customer the app will immediately recognise your profile and thus less admin for you. The rest of the UberEats app is also as simple as using the original Uber.
Basically you can order food from your favourite restaurant and see your order arriving in real time. This is once again a disruption in the food delivery industry. Some of the larger food delivery services should have anticipated that a player like Uber can come into South Africa and leverage their awesome brand and thus take significant market share virtually immediately.
The problem for the current leaders in food delivery in South Africa is once again understanding the value if disruptive technology like ride hailing and now even “food” hailing apps. People want to live in an on demand society and they want real time tracking of their orders and they want payment to happen effortlessly within the application. Uber were the first ones to understand this and that is why they are now valued at $60 Billion and perform over 1 Million rides per day in over 60 Countries.
You can download UberEats for your Android at ( Play Store ) or if you have an iPhone you can visit ( App Store )
This is going to be interesting to see how South Africa embraces this new disruptive app. We are confident UberEats will be a huge success and we will enjoy following the progress.
